Cyma Lacus, our Digital Media Studio Project at the University of Edinburgh in Spring of 2014, illuminates the imperceptible Fibonacci sequence through a trinity of waves. Sound waves consisting of a musical scale based on Fibonacci ratios vibrate water waves cymatically that in turn are illuminated by light/electromagnetic waves of associated colours. We chose to illuminate the Fibonacci sequence in such a way, because we wish to illustrate how the universe is constructed from numbers and to display these numbers both aurally and visually. The focus is on educating visitors of the aesthetic prominence of this sequence in music and the visual spectrum. We hope to impart a sense of order amongst chaos to our audience, to demonstrate how simple processes underlie basic natural principles and rules.
